The Veteran Center Coordinator position manages and coordinates all veteran assistance programs and services.
This position requires the ability to work closely with the One-Stop Coordinator, state and community veteran organizations, and supervise work-study students.
The candidate must be able to schedule appointments and make referrals for veteran students on and off campus, provide community outreach to veterans and their dependents, assist students, establish a Veterans Club, and manage the Veteran Center.
The candidate will help veteran students navigate the ENMU-Roswell student services processes such as the initial application process, academic advising, financial aid, scholarships, GI Bill verifications, etcetera.
The candidate will coordinate with various organizations to support student veterans and their families, maintain knowledge of program requirements, and participate in training when available.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain Veteran Center and manage student check-in process using Who’s Next software.
Supervise student employees, schedules, and coordinate with other departments in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) as needed.
Coordinate with One-Stop Coordinator, Veteran Affairs to stay abreast of VA Educational benefit information including but not limited to: eligible degree programs, VA certification process, and state and federal regulations.
Promote student success and retention by coordinating with academic support and student services.
Assist students with initial processes and develop individual academic achievement plans as needed.
Work closely with campus departments for event coordination.
Plan, organize, and promote veteran sponsored activities and events.
Assist with other student activities and events.
Work with the campus graphic designer to produce promotional materials for the Veteran Center.
Maintain Veteran Center social media sites and work with the LRC Coordinator to publish a monthly newsletter highlighting Veteran events, accomplishments, and opportunities.
Track and maintain all necessary data for Veteran students.
Cross-training with LRC departments and Student Services.
Network and create partnerships with outside Veteran organizations to support Veteran students.
Attend ESGR meetings as needed and any other committee meetings as deemed necessary.
Qualify the Roswell campus to be recognized as a military friendly college.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree or a combination of education and experience or equivalent time served in the military.
Two years of experience providing services to students, veterans, or members of the public.
Commitment to providing robust Veteran student support and customer service.
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and various computer and presentation technologies.
Some night and weekend work may be required occasionally.
Excellent written and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree in any field.
Experience working with Veteran’s or college level students.
Experience working at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
Bilingual.
Veteran status.
Working Conditions Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force, occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
